Subtype-Dependent Co-receptor Tropism in Cuban HIV-1–Infected Patients: Implications for Maraviroc Treatment
نویسندگان
چکیده
INTRODUCTION Unlike most high-income countries where subtype B viruses predominate, the Cuban HIV-1 epidemic is characterized by a great diversity of subtypes and circulating recombinant forms. Some studies have shown that HIV variants exhibiting preference for CXCR4 co-receptor (X4-tropic) could impacts on disease pathogenesis, with clinical implications antiviral treatment plans. Determination tropism crucial clinicians in deciding whether maraviroc an appropriate antiviral.

Co-receptor tropism prediction among 1045 Indian HIV-1 subtype C sequences: Therapeutic implications for India
BACKGROUND Understanding co-receptor tropism of HIV-1 strains circulating in India will provide key analytical leverage for assessing the potential usefulness of newer antiretroviral drugs such as chemokine co-receptor antagonists among Indian HIV-infected populations. The objective of this study was to determine using in silico methods, HIV-1 tropism among a large number of Indian isolates bot...

متن کاملHIV-1 tropism evolution after short-term maraviroc monotherapy in HIV-1-infected patients.
We analyzed the evolution of viral tropism after 8 days of maraviroc monotherapy, i.e., we used the maraviroc clinical test (MCT), in 21 patients with and 14 without virological response to the drug (MCT(+) and MCT(-) patients, respectively). No increases in CXCR4 inferred viral loads (X4IVLs) were observed in MCT(+) patients, while X4IVLs increased only in MCT(-) patients, with X4IVLs of >2 lo...
متن کاملHIV-1 co-receptor tropism and liver fibrosis in HIV-infected patients
BACKGROUND In vitro, gp120 of both X4 and R5 HIV-1 strains activates human hepatic stellate cells, but if it can promote liver fibrosis in vivo is unknown. We aimed to evaluate if patients carrying X4 or R5 strains have a different liver fibrosis (LF) progression over time. METHODS A total of 1,137 HIV-infected patients in ICONA cohort (21% females, 7% HCV co-infected) with an available deter...
متن کاملComparison of phenotypic and genotypic tropism determination in triple-class-experienced HIV patients eligible for maraviroc treatment
BACKGROUND Determination of HIV-1 tropism is a pre-requisite to the use of CCR5 antagonists. This study evaluated the potential of population genotypic tropism tests (GTTs) in clinical practice, and the correlation with phenotypic tropism tests (PTTs) in patients accessing routine HIV care. METHODS Forty-nine consecutive plasma samples for which an original Trofile(TM) assay was performed wer...
